#RELEVANTONLYSALUTE goes to Odell Beckham Jr.
Nike made a big bold move when it decided to make New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. the face of its upcoming NFL marketing campaign.
ESPN’s Darren Rovell reports, Nike has agreed to sign Odell to a five-year deal worth nearly $5 million a year. Yes! You read that right, $5 million a year!
This deal will make history, as it’s the richest shoe deal for an NFL player. Not only that, it is almost twice as much as any other deal Nike has made with any other football player.
This message was from ESPN:
“The deal will make Beckham a larger brand spokesman for Nike, including campaigns outside of football.
A Nike spokesman said the company wasn’t commenting on the deal. The story was first reported by sneaker site NiceKicks.com.
“It was a long process,” Beckham’s agent, Zeke Sandhu, told ESPN. “This proved he’s an icon.”
Not bad for the 24 year old who is in his final year of his four-year rookie deal with the New York Giants. Rumor has it, the Giants recently made a fifth year 2018 option, which will more than likely pay him more than $8 million. According to records, Beckham will make roughly $1.8 million during the 2017 season, that means that Nike is paying him more than his NFL contract.
Beckham will become a free agent in 2019. However, we don’t think he will have any issues getting picked up by a team.
Now Beckham you are RELEVANT ONLY!
